Accenture Buys Speedtest: Monopoly on Network Telemetry
On March 3, 2026, consulting giant Accenture announced the acquisition of Ookla (creator of the iconic Speedtest and Downdetector services). The financial details are hidden, but the strategic weight of the deal is monumental.

Accenture is not just buying a "check ping" button. Ookla owns the largest and most detailed crowdsourced network telemetry database in the world: from the coverage quality of 5G cells to geo-patterns of AWS server outages. The consultancy will integrate these petabytes of raw data into its AI pipelines. The goal is to sell predictive models of network degradation to telecom operators and global enterprises. Whoever aggregates the global connectivity map gains control over the optimization of the entire distributed AI infrastructure.
