Amazon officially announced a major reorganization of its AI leadership on December 17–18, 2025. According to Reuters, Rohit Prasad, who led AGI and Alexa development, will depart the company at year-end. He will be replaced by AWS veteran Peter DeSantis, who will head a new unified group combining flagship model development (Nova), custom silicon (Trainium, Graviton), and quantum computing efforts. This move aims to build a "full-stack" technology capability within a single organization, intended to accelerate development and help Amazon compete more effectively against the Microsoft-OpenAI alliance and Google.
CEO Andy Jassy emphasized that unifying software and hardware innovations in one group will maximize the potential of new technologies. The new structure under DeSantis will report directly to the CEO, confirming the strategic priority of AI infrastructure for Amazon's future. Analysts believe this consolidation will help Amazon shed its reputation as a follower in the AI race and offer AWS customers more integrated and cost-effective solutions for training and inference of large models.
