PR and Courts: Anthropic Launches Institute Amid Pentagon Conflict
On March 12, 2026, the Anthropic startup launched a massive campaign to whitewash its reputation. Amid an unfolding legal conflict with the Pentagon (where the company's lawyers are trying to remove the "supply-chain risk" status via appeal), the startup announced the creation of the "Anthropic Institute."

The official goal of the institute is "researching the social and economic consequences of AI." The actual goal is the creation of a powerful lobbying tool in Washington. Having lost access to military contracts due to the excessive ethical constraints of its models, Anthropic is trying a different approach: becoming the main think tank advising lawmakers on AI regulation. This is a classic Silicon Valley maneuver: if they try to regulate you, lead the process and write the laws to suit yourself.
