Apple CarPlay: Gates Open for ChatGPT and Claude

On February 7, 2026, reports emerged of a shift in Apple's strategy: CarPlay will start supporting third-party voice AI assistants. Drivers will be able to choose ChatGPT or Claude instead of Siri for complex conversations behind the wheel.

This is an admission that Siri cannot compete with large language models in the "conversational" genre. Apple is choosing the aggregator path: Siri remains for system control ("turn on wipers"), while external AIs are for knowledge and entertainment.
