The deal is focused exclusively on inference—the process of running already trained AI models. AWS physically cannot build the unit economics of generative services on expensive, energy-intensive NVIDIA processors. Qualcomm, in turn, issued Amazon a $4 billion warrant contingent on purchase volumes. The partnership also includes the development of optical interconnects with a bandwidth of 1.6 Tbps. For the B2B industry, this marks the end of the "green company's" monopoly in the AI operational phase. Hyperscalers are switching to custom, energy-efficient silicon, which will inevitably crash the cost of API requests for end businesses.
