National Capacity: BT and Nscale Launch 14 MW for UK Sovereign AI

The concept of Sovereign AI is materializing in hardware. On April 23, 2026, the telecom group BT, together with provider Nscale, announced the launch of 14 MW of computing capacity based on NVIDIA architecture in the UK.

The project spans three BT sites and is aimed exclusively at serving internal British AI initiatives. After government agencies and corporations realized the risks of transferring proprietary data to foreign servers, demand for local GPU clusters skyrocketed. BT’s move is a monetization of the telecom’s surplus power capacity. British businesses get a high-performance environment to train algorithms, completely isolated from cross-border jurisdictions and the regulatory risks of the US or the EU.
