Scientific Sovereignty: Chinese Academy of Sciences Rolls Out 8 Specialized AI Models

The era of universal chatbots is being replaced by an era of specialized expert systems. On April 29, 2026, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) officially presented a system of eight specialized large AI models.

The neural networks are strictly tailored for fundamental science: mathematics, physics, materials science, astronomy, ecology, aerospace, geosciences, and biology. This move continues China's strategy of technological decoupling from the Western ecosystem (which we saw with DeepSeek V4 and Huawei processors). Moving away from broad LLMs in favor of highly specialized systems makes it possible to radically increase accuracy (reduce hallucinations) in critical research. CAS is building a sovereign digital foundation that will provide Chinese scientists with independence from the APIs of American monopolies.
