Neurointerfaces to the Masses: China Accelerates BCI

Neurointerfaces to the Masses: China Accelerates BCI
On March 7, 2026, on the sidelines of the National People's Congress (NPC) session, a statement was made that blurs the line between science fiction and reality. A leading expert from the Sichuan Institute of Brain Science (Yao Dezhong) announced that brain-computer interfaces (BCI) will enter widespread clinical and practical use within 3–5 years.

Unlike Elon Musk's PR strategy with Neuralink, China uses a systemic state approach. BCI technologies are already included in pilot medical insurance (reimbursement) schemes, providing a guaranteed market. Integrating LLM agents with neuroimplants will not only treat severe neurological diseases but also create a new class of controllers for industrial robotics. China is investing in wetware (the merging of biology and software) with the same aggression it used to build battery factories.
