Death of CUDA: DeepSeek and Huawei Open-Source Software Stack for Chinese AI Chips
Chinese Big Tech has struck NVIDIA at its most vulnerable point—its software monopoly. On September 30, 2026, model developer DeepSeek, together with Huawei, open-sourced libraries (including TileLang) for optimizing computations on Ascend chips.

For years, NVIDIA's hegemony rested not only on silicon but also on the proprietary CUDA platform, which was physically painful for developers to migrate away from. Now this wall has been demolished. Providing an open software layer allows engineers to easily adapt their neural networks to Huawei's architecture. For the semiconductor macroeconomy, this is a fatal signal for Western embargoes. Beijing has completed the formation of a fully sovereign AI industry: they have their own hardware (Ascend), their own advanced models (DeepSeek), and now, open software to seamlessly link them. Asia's dependence on American technology has been eliminated at the code level.
