Hardware for Comms: Ericsson to Supply RAN Compute Platform for NTT DOCOMO AI Networks

The development of telecommunications hinges on the need for radical modernization of physical infrastructure. On July 31, 2026, Ericsson announced an agreement with Japanese operator NTT DOCOMO to supply the advanced `RAN Compute` platform.

The deal marks an important industry transition to the AI for Networks paradigm. The giant data streams generated by autonomous agents and Physical AI systems are overloading standard cell towers. Ericsson's platform is positioned as AI-enabled: it has built-in tensor capabilities for processing algorithmic workloads directly at the edge of the network (Edge Computing). The Japanese market, which is currently aggressively building national AI factories, needs ultra-fast "neuro-highways." The integration of such hardware proves that artificial intelligence CAPEX extends far beyond purchasing server GPUs, enriching telecom vendors in the process.
