Ex-Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger Launches "Flourishing AI" Ethics Benchmark

Former Intel Corporation CEO and one of the most respected figures in the tech industry, Pat Gelsinger, announced the launch of a new ambitious initiative on July 11, 2025 – "Flourishing AI" (FAI). The project, as reported by Tech in Asia and C-Sharp Corner, introduces a fundamentally new ethical standard and benchmark for evaluating how well an artificial intelligence model contributes to "human flourishing" and aligns with humanistic values. This move is a direct response to the growing "crisis of trust" in AI within society, fueled by concerns about safety, bias, and the unpredictable consequences of technological development. FAI aims to shift the focus of AI model evaluation from purely technical performance metrics (such as answer accuracy) to more holistic, value-oriented metrics. The initiative was developed in partnership with Gloo, a "faith tech" company, and is based on the academic framework of the "Global Flourishing Study" from Harvard and Baylor Universities. The FAI benchmark will assess AI across seven key dimensions of human well-being: character and virtue, close social relationships, happiness and life satisfaction, meaning and purpose, mental and physical health, financial and material stability, and, in a unique addition, faith and spirituality. If this standard gains industry acceptance, it could exert significant pressure on leading AI labs to optimize their models not only for task completion but also for alignment with fundamental human values.
