Systemic Risk: Financial Stability Board Names AI Top Threat to Global Markets
Financial regulators have openly admitted their helplessness against autonomous algorithms. On August 31, 2026, Financial Stability Board (FSB) Chairman Andrew Bailey told the G20 that AI-driven cyber risks have become the most immediate threat to the global economy.

Machines have fundamentally changed the mathematics of hacking. Agentic AI reduces the cost of attacks to zero while exponentially increasing their speed and scale. The FSB identifies a critical vulnerability: banks and funds are totally dependent on a narrow pool of IT monopolists providing cloud AI services. In the event of a successful compromise of a foundation model (via data poisoning or a provider hack), the entire financial infrastructure built on its API will collapse. This means Wall Street faces rigorous stress tests, and bank spending on Zero Trust cybersecurity will skyrocket.
