Smart Farming: GNNs and Deep RL Combined to Protect Crops
Complex neural network architectures are being successfully adapted for agriculture. On April 19, 2026, an article was published in Scientific Reports describing a hybrid framework based on Graph Neural Networks (GNN) and Deep Reinforcement Learning (Deep RL).

The development aims at autonomous agricultural pest detection and chemical usage optimization. Using graph networks allows the algorithm to understand the spatial context and connections between infected areas of a field, while the Deep RL agent continuously optimizes the response strategy. This work highlights a global trend: heavy computations are gradually leaving the financial sector and Big Tech, solving fundamental food security challenges in the real economy.
