Update: Google Rolls Out Biggest Search Upgrade in 25 Years
Update to Google I/O conference coverage. Classic search is officially history. On May 24, 2026, Google confirmed the global rollout of its new architecture—the platform's largest upgrade in a quarter-century. It is powered by the Gemini 3.5 Flash and Omni models.

The strategic shift to Agentic AI is complete. The company has integrated autonomous digital assistants across its entire ecosystem: from the "smart box" in search to Ask YouTube features, the AI cart in Google Shopping, and native generation in Gmail and Docs. The user no longer needs to click links and gather information manually. AI agents operate in the background, independently analyzing content, selecting products, and formulating answers. This sets a new UX standard for the entire industry: abandoning the "chatbot" paradigm in favor of continuous, invisible, and ubiquitous delegation of tasks to algorithms.
