Google: Fiber Optics and AI for Climate

On February 19, 2026, Google rolled out a massive bundle of announcements at the India AI Impact Summit. The focus is on the America-India Connect project (laying a submarine fiber optic cable) and funding for climate AI models.

While others sell software, Google is building physical communication channels. The transoceanic cable will reduce ping between US and Indian data centers, which is critical for syncing distributed LLMs. DeepMind's climate initiatives are excellent PR, but the core of this announcement is hardcore infrastructure.
