Google announced on 16 September 2025 its plan to invest £5 billion in the UK economy over the next two years. As part of that plan, a new data centre in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, has been opened to meet increasing demand for the company’s cloud and AI services. The investment covers capital expenditure, research and development (R&D), particularly through the London-based Google DeepMind lab which focuses on foundational science and healthcare, as well as engineering projects. Google projects that this initiative will create approximately 8,250 jobs annually and strengthen the UK’s position in the field of artificial intelligence.
