Google Photos Gets Veo 3 Model for Photo-to-Video Generation

Google has begun rolling out a new feature in the Google Photos app that allows users to create short video clips from still photographs. According to the official Google blog post from September 5, 2025, this capability is powered by the companys latest video generation model, Veo 3. The new "Photo to Video" feature is available in a dedicated "Create" tab (currently for U.S. users only). A user can select a photo and use a text prompt to describe the desired motion, turning the image into a 4-6 second high-quality video clip. The feature operates on a freemium model: free users will have a limited number of generations per month, while subscribers to the Google One AI Pro and Ultra plans will receive significantly higher limits. This move is a major step in the "mainstreaming" of generative video, making complex technology accessible and easy to use for hundreds of millions of Google Photos users.
