The Indonesian government announced on June 1, 2025, the launch of an ambitious national initiative aimed at accelerating the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in the country. As reported by The Jakarta Post, the program is being implemented jointly by several key ministries, including the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, in partnership with a major national foundation. An initial fund of 500 billion Indonesian rupiah has been allocated for the initiative's implementation. The main goal of the program is to create and develop a sustainable AI ecosystem in Indonesia, as well as to mass-train qualified personnel capable of working with the latest technologies and ensuring the country's competitiveness in the global digital economy. The initiative involves funding AI research projects, supporting AI startups, establishing centers of excellence, and developing and implementing new educational programs in AI and STEM at all levels – from school to university and vocational training. These measures are expected to help Indonesia not only bridge the technological gap but also become a notable player in the regional AI market.
