The U.S. Department of Energys Idaho National Laboratory (INL) announced on August 13, 2025, the launch of a new initiative: Testing for AI Grid Resilience (TAIGR). The program aims to address two key challenges arising from the integration of AI into critical infrastructure management. First, it focuses on combating "AI hallucinations"—plausible but incorrect recommendations that could lead to grid destabilization. Second, it aims to protect against targeted cyberattacks that exploit AI vulnerabilities. The TAIGR initiative will create testbeds for stress-testing AI systems, which will help develop security standards and increase trust in AI for managing national power systems.
