ISTA Receives €5 Million for Ethical AI from Garrett Camp
On January 24, 2026, the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) announced receiving a €5 million grant from Garrett Camp, co-founder of Uber. The funds are directed to support fundamental research in responsible and human-centric AI.

Unlike corporate grants, which often demand applied results, this donation focuses on theory: how to make algorithms transparent and safe at a mathematical level. This is an important signal of support for the European academic school, which aims to become an ethical counterweight to the commercial arms race in Silicon Valley.
