Face as a Ticket: JAL Tests Biometric Boarding with Digital ID
Computer vision systems are pushing paper bureaucracy out of logistics hubs. On April 22, 2026, Japan Airlines (JAL) and Tokyo International Air Terminal (TIAT) reported on a successful pilot project for boarding and transfer using Facial Recognition technology.

The innovation lies in the seamless integration of facial recognition with Digital Identity. The system supports compatibility with three mobile wallets and two biometric standards. For the passenger, this means passing through security without presenting a passport or boarding pass once. For the aviation industry, it is a fundamental step toward standardizing airport infrastructure. AI image processing models have become fast and accurate enough (edge computing) to handle a massive flow of transit passengers in real time.
