Earning on Transit: Megaport Signs $687M in AI Contracts Bypassing Hyperscalers
Real money in the AI era is not made by algorithm creators, but by the sellers of "shovels." On September 29, 2026, Australian network provider Megaport declared the signing of three gigantic infrastructure service contracts (networking and storage for inference) with a total value of A$978.6 million (about $687 million).

This deal proves the macroeconomic decentralization of the industry. The demand for AI compute has become so massive that the monopoly of Amazon, Google, and Microsoft can no longer cope. The B2B market has actively begun to shift towards specialized physical infrastructure providers. Integrators capable of providing dedicated low-latency channels for Agentic AI operation are guaranteeing themselves hundreds of millions of dollars in recurring revenue. The industry is gradually moving away from cloud centralization to distributed networks, where the profitability of infrastructure is many times higher than the profitability of the language models themselves.
