WSJ: Meta Developing New AI Models "Mango" and "Avocado"
According to The Wall Street Journal reports from December 18–19, 2025, Meta Superintelligence Labs is actively working on two new advanced models. The model codenamed "Mango" will focus on high-quality image and video generation and understanding, positioning it as a direct competitor to Sora and GPT-Image. The second model, named "Avocado," is being developed as a powerful tool for writing and debugging code, designed to surpass the current capabilities of GitHub Copilot and specialized LLMs from competitors.

The tentative release for both models is scheduled for the first half of 2026. Mark Zuckerberg's strategy involves creating highly specialized systems that outperform general-purpose models in specific application tasks. "Mango" is intended to provide seamless visual content integration into the Metaverse and Instagram ecosystems, while "Avocado" will serve as the foundation for Meta's internal development processes and be offered to enterprise clients through cloud platforms. Analysts believe these developments will help Meta strengthen its position in both open-source and commercial AI segments.
