Penetration Index: 17.8% of Global Workforce Already Uses AI
The mass adoption of algorithms can now be accurately quantified. According to a report by the Microsoft AI Economy Institute published on May 7, 2026, global AI usage reached 17.8% of the entire workforce by the end of the first quarter.

The geography of this growth is of particular interest: the absolute leaders in penetration (diffusion) are the UAE and Singapore. These data corroborate macroeconomic summaries from previous weeks (such as the automation of Singapore's seaport). The Middle East and Asia are seizing the initiative in the applied use of AI. While the US and Europe are bogged down in hyperscaler infrastructure wars and heavy bureaucracy (like the AI Act), Asian markets are aggressively integrating available models into daily corporate routines.
