Microsoft is taking the next step in transforming its Edge browser into an intelligent assistant by launching testing for the new "Smart Mode" (also known as "Magic Mode") for Copilot on August 5, 2025. This mode gives the AI assistant proactive capabilities: it can analyze the context of open tabs, anticipate user intentions, and suggest relevant actions, effectively turning the browser into a unified workspace. Experts view this launch as the final stage of preparing the Edge infrastructure for the deep integration of the upcoming GPT-5 model. With its arrival, Copilot will be able to perform complex multi-step tasks directly in the browser, which will radically change the user experience (UX) and blur the line between finding information and applying it.
