Microsoft Opens New AI Research Lab in Singapore

Microsoft Corporation announced on July 24, 2025, the official opening of its new research laboratory in Singapore, which will become part of the companys world-renowned and one of its most productive divisions – Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA). This move significantly strengthens the tech giants R&D presence in the strategically important Southeast Asia region and confirms Singapores status as one of the key global hubs for the development and implementation of artificial intelligence. The new lab, MSRA Singapore, will focus on both fundamental and applied research in AI. A key feature of its operation will be a model of close collaboration with the local scientific and business communities. Joint research programs and partnerships with leading Singaporean universities, such as the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), as well as with major industrial companies and promising startups, have already been announced. It is anticipated that the labs research agenda will focus on areas most relevant to the regional economy, including the application of AI in financial technologies (FinTech), optimization of global supply chains, development of "smart city" technologies, and solutions for sustainable development.
