Perimeter Isolation: Microsoft Launches "Zero Trust" Tools for the Public Sector
Government pressure is forcing American Big Tech to decentralize control over AI. On October 20, 2026, Microsoft announced a radical expansion of its Sovereign Cloud capabilities, releasing the Sovereign Control Panel tool. The solution allows customers (especially from the B2G sector) to enforce hardware-level control over data residency, block access by Microsoft operators, and run models exclusively in a closed, local environment.

This functionality is a forced capitulation to European and Asian regulators. Corporations have realized that without physical security guarantees (Zero Trust), government agencies will refuse to integrate LLMs into critical infrastructure. Sovereign Cloud shatters the original "public cloud" business model, compelling providers to sell infrastructure as a service (IaaS) with total alienation of management rights. Control over the models has officially been transferred from tech corporations to national governments.
