End of Clippy 2.0: Microsoft Unifies Copilot and Ditches Mico Mascot

IT giants are getting rid of failed UI experiments. On August 14, 2026, Microsoft announced the end of support for separate versions of Copilot (for consumers and business) in favor of a single unified application. At the same time, the AI mascot Mico faced the chopping block.

The attempt to "humanize" artificial intelligence failed. Mico, conceived as a modern version of the legendary "Clippy," proved unnecessary for users who demand a stark, utilitarian interface. The feature was sidelined to the Microsoft Learn Live platform. Merging the Copilot branches is a pragmatic business move. Maintaining two different architectures for the same language model (LLM) is economically unviable amid giant bills for server infrastructure. Microsoft is concentrating resources on the stability of core Agentic AI, ditching entertainment clutter in corporate software.
