Compute Transfer: Moonshot AI Opens Full Kimi K3 Weights to Offload Servers
One of the year's biggest releases took place right on schedule, but under the pressure of harsh infrastructural reality. On July 27, 2026, Chinese startup Moonshot AI officially published the full weights of its flagship 2.8 trillion parameter model, `Kimi K3`.

This move is a direct consequence of the recent freeze on B2B subscriptions (July 20). The startup simply could not cope with the overload on its own data centers. Opening the weights allows Moonshot AI to elegantly delegate inference costs to its clients. Enterprise customers can now download the model and deploy it on their own on-premise servers. This is an unprecedented blow to OpenAI's proprietary business model. The B2B sector gets a tool with a 1-million token context window that can be integrated into closed Zero Trust perimeters without API subscription fees, paying only for their own hardware and electricity.
