OpenAI Supports Creation of Feature-Length Animated Film "Critterz" Using AI

OpenAI is providing technological and creative support for the creation of the feature-length animated film "Critterz." The project, led by OpenAI creative specialist Chad Nelson, is an experiment in using generative AI as a primary tool in filmmaking. The goal is to prove that films can be made significantly faster and cheaper than with traditional methods. The team is using OpenAIs latest models, including GPT-5 and the video generator Sora, to create characters, scenes, and animation based on artists sketches. The production cycle is planned to be reduced from the usual three years to nine months, with a budget of less than $30 million. This project is a strategic move for OpenAI, aimed at demonstrating to Hollywood the capabilities of AI as a creative tool rather than a human replacement. At the same time, "Critterz" has become the center of a broad discussion about authorship, ethics, and the future of creative professions in the age of generative AI.
