The startup Robomart has unveiled its new RM5 autonomous delivery robot and announced the launch of a service with a revolutionary pricing model: a flat $3 delivery fee, without any hidden commissions or markups. This move is a direct challenge to the business models of giants like DoorDash and Uber Eats, which are known for their complex and often high fees. The RM5 robot is a Level 4 autonomous vehicle capable of carrying up to 500 pounds (225 kg) of cargo. It is equipped with 10 individual, temperature-controlled lockers, allowing it to complete multiple orders in a single trip. Robomarts business model is based on creating an "autonomous marketplace" where retailers list their products in an app. By leveraging full automation and eliminating human drivers, the company claims to reduce delivery costs by 70%, making the low flat fee possible. The first city where the service will be deployed is Austin, Texas.
