Foundation for 6G: Samsung and NTT DOCOMO Successfully Test AI Comms Routing
Artificial intelligence is penetrating the physical layer of telecommunications infrastructure. On August 10, 2026, Samsung Electronics and NTT DOCOMO announced the successful validation of AI-based radio access technology (AI-RAN) at the individual subscriber level.

Cell towers are ceasing to be passive relays. The new technology analyzes user behavior using neural networks directly at the edge of the network (Edge Computing), proactively predicting signal degradation and adjusting base station parameters on the fly. This is the hardware foundation for the upcoming 6G standard. In an environment where gigawatt AI agents are clogging internet channels with synthetic traffic, telecom vendors are forced to integrate predictive algorithms into the "hardware" itself. The success of Samsung and DOCOMO means the start of a massive modernization cycle for global cellular networks, guaranteeing multi-billion dollar CAPEX for telecom equipment suppliers.
