Singapore: S$1 Billion for Sovereign AI Through 2030
On January 24, 2026, the Singapore government announced an allocation of over S$1 billion for public AI research. This initiative is part of the updated Smart Nation 2.0 strategy aimed at ensuring technological sovereignty.

The funds will not go towards purchasing off-the-shelf solutions, but into fundamental science, local talent development, and building computing infrastructure. Singapore aims to become a global hub for "neutral" AI, balancing between US and Chinese interests. Experts note that for the city-state, this is a matter of survival in the new digital economy.
