Cold Space: Elon Musk Prepares to Launch Orbital AI Data Centers
Artificial intelligence infrastructure is moving to low Earth orbit. On June 9, 2026, Elon Musk revealed details of a project to create space-based AI data centers within the SpaceX network. According to him, most of the necessary hardware is already integrated into the Starlink V3 satellite platform.

From an engineering perspective, this is a brilliant pitch. Terrestrial AI factories (like SoftBank’s 5 GW monster in France) have hit the physical limits of power grids and the need to dissipate colossal amounts of heat. Placing servers in space solves the problem of free cooling and direct solar power supply, while Starlink's laser interconnects will ensure zero-latency data transmission. For Wall Street investors, this project, coupled with the recent Google cloud contract, makes the upcoming SpaceX IPO the most coveted investment of the decade, tying together space logistics and AI infrastructure.
