Stargate Project Expands with Announcement of Five New AI Data Centers in the US

The partners in the Stargate mega-project—OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank—announced a significant expansion of their AI infrastructure on September 24, 2025. Five new sites will be added to the flagship campus already under construction in Texas. Three of these, in Shackelford County, Texas; Doña Ana County, New Mexico; and the Midwest, will be developed jointly with Oracle. Two more data centers in Lordstown, Ohio, and Milam County, Texas, will be built in partnership with SoftBank. This expansion brings the project's total planned capacity to nearly 7 gigawatts, with cumulative investments over the next three years exceeding $400 billion. According to Reuters, this move significantly accelerates the creation of the computational base needed for OpenAI to train and deploy its next-generation AI models and represents the largest private AI infrastructure project in history.
