Open Code vs Sanctions: Tencent Releases Professional Hy4 Preview AI Model

China continues to methodically dismantle the monopoly of American proprietary LLMs. On August 28, 2026, Tencent officially announced and open-sourced (open-weight) its large language model, `Hy4 Preview`.

Unlike entertainment bots, Hy4 is strictly focused on the B2B sector: complex software engineering, deep research, and financial analytics. This release proves that Asian giants are capable of training frontier models for professional tasks, despite the US hardware embargo. By making the weights open-source (the model is already available on Hugging Face), Tencent deals a blow to the unit economics of Western labs. Corporations worldwide now have the opportunity to deploy analytical AI systems on their servers for free, abandoning expensive API subscriptions from OpenAI and Anthropic.
