The UN General Assembly officially approved the creation of a new high-level advisory panel on artificial intelligence on August 27, 2025. This move is a response to calls for a global, inclusive approach to governing the rapidly developing technology. The panel will consist of 40 experts representing academia, the private sector, and civil society from all regions of the world. The panels term is three years. Its mandate includes analyzing the risks and benefits of AI, developing recommendations for international norms and standards, and fostering cooperation. A key element of its work will be the organization of an annual "Global Dialogue on AI Governance" in Geneva, intended to become a central platform for all stakeholders. The establishment of this body is a crucial step toward developing coordinated international responses to the challenges and opportunities of the AI era.
