Silicon Shield: US and Philippines Build Giant Hub for AI Chips
Geopolitics is redrawing the map of technological supply chains. On April 17, 2026, the US State Department, together with the Philippine government, announced the creation of an industrial hub spanning 4,000 acres.

The goal of the project is "friendshoring" (moving production to allied nations) and strengthening the supply chain for semiconductors and the AI industry. Against the backdrop of TSMC's reports on extreme factory utilization and the permanent threat of a Chinese blockade of Taiwan (which we discussed in the context of funding for the Chinese AGI ShengShu), Washington is creating a backup security perimeter in Southeast Asia. The project complements Japan's investments in the Rapidus plant. The coalition of allies is forming a physical barrier ensuring that the development of Western artificial intelligence will not halt due to a chip shortage.
