This move is dictated by geopolitical risks. The US administration cannot allow the hardware foundation of its national security (Blackwell server racks and cooling systems) to be assembled exclusively in the Asian region, which is under the potential threat of blockades. Wistron's Texas plant will ensure an uninterrupted supply chain for American data centers. For macroeconomics, this means a significant increase in the unit economics of hardware: American assembly costs more than Asian assembly, which will inevitably affect the CAPEX costs of hyperscalers and, consequently, the final tariffs of cloud AI providers.
