Elon Musks company, xAI, has hired two leading researchers from Nvidia—Zeeshan Patel and Ethan He—to accelerate the development of so-called "world models." According to the Financial Times, these specialists have experience working on simulation platforms like Nvidia Omniverse. Unlike language models trained on text, "world models" are trained on video data and interactions with the physical environment, allowing them to build an internal understanding of the laws of physics and cause-and-effect relationships. xAI plans to use this technology to create a new generation of AI systems capable of a deeper understanding of the real world. According to sources, the first practical applications could be the creation of realistic and interactive 3D environments for video games and the training of humanoid robots. This move puts xAI in direct competition with Google and Meta, which are also actively researching this advanced area of AI.
