Cyber-Infantry: Chinese Military Tests Humanoid Robots for Combat Operations

Embodied artificial intelligence (Physical AI) is officially putting on military epaulets. On September 7, 2026, a massive Reuters investigation, based on the analysis of over 100 government procurements and patents, revealed the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s preparation to integrate humanoid robots into combat units.

The Chinese military-industrial complex has moved from civilian demonstrations to the tactical application of machines: robots are being prepared for reconnaissance, urban infiltration, and joint patrols with human soldiers. Although there is no evidence of armed machines in deployment yet, the vector of development is irreversible. For the technology sector, this is a tectonic shift: robotics is merging with defense-tech. The US will inevitably respond by expanding sanctions on hardware components for robots, and venture investments in startups building anthropomorphic mechanisms will now be viewed through the lens of national security and geopolitical threat.
