Illusion of Creativity: How AI Chatbots are Changing Engineering Education
The integration of AI into the educational process, which we covered regarding Microsoft's recent contract in Hong Kong, is finally receiving an independent academic assessment. On April 19, 2026, Scientific Reports published a study on the impact of generative AI chatbots on the engineering creativity of students.

The authors attempt to answer the main question of the EdTech industry: do LLMs make future engineers more innovative, or do the algorithms act as a "crutch," killing independent creative thinking? The results show a complex correlation. AI accelerates the design process and brainstorming, but over-reliance on generated solutions (AI reliance) reduces the originality of the final engineering products. This research will become the foundation for developing new teaching methods, where AI is used as a sparring partner rather than a tool for blindly outsourcing tasks.
