Nuclear Inference: Google Pours $15B into Finnish Data Centers and Buys Nuclear Power
The energy hunger of the AI industry is forcing Big Tech to buy up nuclear power plants. On September 9, 2026, Google officially announced an unprecedented investment of €13 billion ($15.1 billion) in Finland’s digital infrastructure. The project spans 2027–2028.

The key detail of the deal is a 22-year contract with the energy company Fortum to purchase up to 50% of the electricity generated by the Finnish Loviisa nuclear power plant. This is a macroeconomic marker: the construction of gigawatt GPU clusters has hit the limits of "green" generation. Wind and solar cannot provide stable power for training frontier models. Corporations are moving to directly reserve nuclear infrastructure for decades to come. For the market, this means that access to stable and cheap electricity has definitively become as critical an asset as the tensor processors themselves.
