AI in Every Tower: GSMA Standardizes Neural Networks for Voice Calls
On the sidelines of the MWC (Mobile World Congress) on March 12, 2026, the GSMA association released a crucial document for the telecom sector: experience specifications for AI-calling native applications.

Until now, the integration of AI into calls (synchronous translation, noise reduction, transcription) occurred at the level of third-party applications (OTT) or the processing power of the smartphone itself. The GSMA specifications move this architecture directly into the core of operators' mobile networks (Core Network). This means that a subscriber will get smart assistant features during a regular GSM/VoLTE call, regardless of how old their phone is. For telecom operators, this is a chance to regain lost margins by selling "smart calls" as a new VAS service, rather than just acting as a dumb pipe for internet traffic.
