More than half (51%) of the adult population in the United Kingdom are concerned about how artificial intelligence will affect their jobs. These are the findings of a poll published on August 27, 2025, by the Trades Union Congress (TUC), the countrys leading trade union federation. According to The Guardian, concern is particularly high among younger workers aged 25 to 34, where the figure reaches 62%. In response to these fears, the TUC has put forward several demands to the government and employers. Firstly, the unions insist on legally enshrining workers right to participate in decisions regarding the implementation of AI in companies. Secondly, the TUC is calling for the creation of a "digital dividend" mechanism—a tax on the excess profits generated by companies through AI automation, with the subsequent redistribution of these funds for social needs, including retraining and worker support. This poll and the subsequent demands mark an important stage in the public discourse, shifting the focus from technological excitement to the need for fair rules and social guarantees in the age of AI.
