Monopoly Architecture: OpenAI Transforms ChatGPT into a Superapp Ahead of IPO
The user interface industry is preparing for a tectonic shift. On June 7, 2026, the Financial Times revealed OpenAI’s internal plans for a radical redesign of ChatGPT, turning it into a full-fledged "superapp."

This goes far beyond text generation. The platform is transforming into a closed ecosystem integrating coding tools, autonomous AI agents, and third-party B2C services. OpenAI is essentially copying the Asian WeChat model: users should not have to leave the application to solve work or household tasks. This maneuver serves two macroeconomic goals. First, maximizing valuation ahead of its upcoming Initial Public Offering (IPO). Second, direct competition with Microsoft's Windows ecosystem. The partnership between the two corporations is fraying: OpenAI is building its own operating system on top of traditional desktop and mobile OSs.
