Hyperscalers have begun en masse to replace copper cables in data centers with optics, as gigawatt AI clusters demand colossal bandwidth without overheating. The shortage has proven so acute that clients are locking in prices and making deposits on strict multi-year contracts. Soitec’s revenue in this segment is guaranteed to breach $200 million, and this is only the lower bound. For the "hardware" market, this is a clear trend: investment capital is flowing from chipmakers to network infrastructure vendors. Data transfer speed between racks is now more important than the raw computing power of processors.
