Citigroup Pilots Agentic AI for 5,000 Employees

Financial giant Citigroup announced on September 23, 2025, the launch of a pilot project to implement "agentic" AI capabilities for 5,000 of its employees. Unlike simple chatbots, agentic AI can understand a complex goal and independently execute multi-step tasks. The new features are integrated into the internal "Citi Stylus Workspaces" platform. For example, an employee can issue a single command to have the system research a client using internal and external sources, compile a profile, and translate it into another language. Previously, this required multiple separate queries to different systems. The goal of the pilot project is to assess the real productivity gains from automating complex routine tasks and to analyze the cost-benefit ratio. This move is one of the first large-scale implementations of agentic AI in a major bank and demonstrates a shift towards systems that not only assist but also take over entire workflows.
